Last week, Warner Bros. announced that Academy Award-winning actress Holly Hunter had joined the cast of Zack Snyder's untitled Man of Steel sequel, currently known as Batman vs. Superman. The announcement did not reveal her character, but a reputable site believes it has figured out her identity.

The folks at Latino Review tend to have their antennae tuned to the right places when it comes to situations like this one. They're not always on target, so take this with a grain of salt, but it's worth listening when they post a report about something like this. Here's what they said about Hunter's role:

"We think Holly Hunter is going to be playing Leslie Thompkins, or a Leslie Thompkins replacement character."

Latino Review makes clear they have not yet been able to confirm this news, so for now it's just a rumor. But it's a rumor that bears watching until an official word comes.

Fans of Batman comics might recognize the character's name. Thompkins is a doctor who went to medical school with Bruce Wayne's father before he was killed. In certain versions of Batman's origin story, she actually knows that Bruce Wayne is Batman and offered him comfort in the aftermath of his parents' deaths.

Last week's statement only said that Hunter, along with fellow newcomers Callan Mulvey and Tao Okamoto, "will play characters newly created for the film."

What do you think? Does Latino Review's guess make sense? If so, why? And if not, who else could Hunter play? Let us know your thoughts and guesses in the comments below.
