After Cristina is nominated for a Harper Avery award, everyone in the hospital is on edge to prove themselves as worthy surgeons.  Miranda, who spent the past 10 seasons essentially raising Cristina (and Alex and Meredith), faces a strong feeling of jealousy.

Has she been distracted from her own work?  Yes.  It's not entirely her fault.  She works at a hospital that has had a bomb scare, a shooting, she watched her co-workers destruct after a catastrophic plane crash, and she had a mental breakdown recently (That doesn't even touch on her personal life, which was a nightmare at a time).  Now, she sees someone she taught for years be nominated for the most prestigious honor in the medical field.  Who wouldn't be jealous?

Certainly not Cristina's best friend, Meredith, right?  Wrong.  Meredith constructs a speech for when Cristina wins the award to cover up her own jealousy.  Who would be jealous of their best friend's accomplishments?  Definitely not someone whose mother won the same award when her mother was the same age, right?  Wrong.  Meredith spent her entire life in her mother's shadow and now Cristina is following Ellis Grey's footsteps in being a young, accomplished, award-winning surgeon.

With the award's nomination buzzing through the hospital, everyone is either struting the halls with pride, seething with jealousy, or pushing themselves to go after their dreams.

The interns are hoping just to be in the presence of Cristina's greatness.  Derek pushes his research with Callie and while mapping Callie's brain, the two discover that Callie wants another baby (her brain lit up when she was Meredith holding her baby).  She confesses to Arizona and it turns out Arizona wants another baby, too!  Alex decides to reach out to the private practice doctor about a job.

Everyone in the hospital is trying to make their work amount to something other than saving lives.  They all want to be known for greatness.  With Cristina's nomination, everyone doubts themselves, even Cristina.  It is only when Owen tells her he thinks she won that she settles down.  The genuine appreciation he has for her restores her confidence and will carry her to the award ceremony in next week's episode.
