Though not many people were too happy with the Star Wars prequels, we still got the great character of Darth Maul out of The Phantom Menace. Our time with the menacing Sith was cut short (literally) but LucasArts was hoping to give fans a video game based on him. Unfortunately it never came to fruition, but we have some great footage of it released this week to share with you!

Computer and Video Games reports:

The game was originally envisioned as exclusive to Nintendo platforms, but LucasArts moved development to PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U. Red Fly began developing prototypes in October 2010, but had to change direction when George Lucas pitched an idea where Darth Maul teams up with Darth Talon for a "buddy cop-like experience". The two characters are separated by over a hundred years of Star Wars fiction. Red Fly developed mechanics based on Lucas' suggestion and, at one stage, LucasArts considered buying the studio. However, the game was later cancelled in 2011.

We didn't get to see this video game because Disney purchased Lucasfilm, and shut down LucasArts soon afterwards. Everything that was underway was cut.

"After evaluating our position in the games market, we've decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company's risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games," a spokesperson said at the time.
