Who is August Alsina, you ask? The confident youngster is the prince of R&B, and he's here to stay. After developing a huge following, and getting a record deal with Def Jam it always seemed like he would explode on to the scene, but it appears the time has finally come. On Tuesday 15th April August released his debut album entitled 'Testimony', and if the early reaction is anything to go by, it seems like Ne-Yo, Chris Brown and Trey Songz finally have the competition the genre of R&B has been in desperate need of.

His debut album starts with the passionate single 'Testify', in which he reveals a lot about the personal battles he's faced, and he sets the tone for an exciting, passionate and explosive album, which he duly delivers.

One of the biggest songs on the album is the second single 'Make It Home', in which he sings about losing his brother, and it's almost a goodbye letter, in case he ever passes away. He sings "If I don't make it home tonight, tell my mama that I love her, leave some flowers for my brother," which sends shivers to the listeners, as everybody can relate to the moving lyrics. Superstar rapper Young Jeezy is featured on the track and he delivers a catchy verse to polish off one of the best songs of 2014.

August may be a newcomer to the R&B game, but it appears he's already got an experienced contact book, with the likes of B.O.B, Fabolous and Rick Ross joining Jeezy on the albums track-list.

Alsina looks set to overtake the likes of Ne-Yo, Chris Brown and Trey Songz. Why you ask? The singer is by far one of the least one dimensional singers you will ever hear. In his song 'Kissin On My Tattoos' he shows his passionate side, covering his feelings of love, yet he is able to show different emotions, too.

A powerful, moving song is his track 'Mama' in which he praises his mother, and how she has made him everything he is. It seems his mother would certainly be proud of her boy, and this album is without a doubt the must-have R&B album of 2014.
