IDW Entertainment has partnered with George Lopez (Saint George) and his Travieso Production Company to launch a new horror/comedy project. From the mind of artist Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night), get ready for Wormwood to jump from pages to screen as an animated television series.

Known for his work on Ugly Americans and the Simpsons, David M. Stern has been tapped to write the pilot episode and serve as an executive producer.  The Walking Dead's Circle of Confusion will also join the executive producing team. IDW Entertainment will fund the development of the series, which will be marketed to the networks.

David Ozer, President of IDW Entertainment, states, "We have assembled an incredible creative team with Stern, Lopez, and Circle of Confusion, which will help bring Wormwood to life as a fun animated television series."

Stern mentions why the comedian's risqué humor will benefit the adaptation, "[George} Lopez is a comic genius and Ben's graphic novels are epic horror comedy. Building this universe is going to be like a dream. Or maybe more like a super fun nightmare."

Plot Synopsis:

Wormwood follows the paranormal and obscene adventures of an inter-dimensional worm with the ability to animate corpses as host bodies. Wormwood blends horror and humor, crafting a dark tale perfectly suited for the world of animation.

Lopez discusses what attracts him to the project, "It's not often I can produce a series about an inter-dimensional worm. I am thrilled to be working with such a great creative team on this clever combination of comedy and horror."

Before the animated series launches, make sure to read Ben Templesmith's comic, Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse, from IDW Publishing and ComiXology. We'll just wait and see who will play the voice of the British beer-guzzling corpse.
