It looks like fans are already getting tangled up in Spider-man's web.

The Amazing Spider-man 2, which is set to open in the United States on May 2, has already had a strong opening weekend abroad. The film opened in 14 international markets over the past Easter holiday weekend and has grossed an astonishing $47 million dollars so far. This makes the movie the biggest opener of the year in those countries, which includes the U.K. Ireland, Mexico, Germany, Australia, and Spain.

The film will see Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone reprise their roles of Spider-man and Gwen Stacey, and will also see Marc Webb return to his directing chair. Also set to return to the world of Spider-man is Sally Fields as Peter's Aunt May.

In the film, Peter will continue to fight bad guys and keep the streets of NYC safe from crime. This time around we will see him go head-to-head against villains including Elecro, the Green Goblin, and the Rhino played by Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, and Paul Giamatti respectively. Fans of the comic books are anxious to see how their favorite villains are portrayed in this movie adaption.

It looks like the film is on par to surpass fellow superhero movie, Captain American: The Winter Soldier, which was released earlier this month. When comparing the two opening weekends between these films, in the same territories, The Amazing Spider-man 2 is pacing 30 percent ahead of Captain America. The sequel to 2012 The Amazing Spider-man is currently doing just as well as the first film did internationally.

The film will open in 21 additional territories next weekend including Russia, Japan, the Netherlands, and Italy before finally releasing in the US on May 2.
