Demi Lovato has always been in the spotlight since she was a child star.  The 19-year old singer/actress has millions of female fans who look up to her and watch her every move.

With that in mind, Lovato consciously makes decisions and speaks.  She performed on "Good Morning America" on July 6 (Friday) and opened up about what it's like to be a role model.

"That's what being a role model is about," she said before her live performance in New York's Central Park. "It's not about being perfect.  It's about speaking about your issues and inspiring others to get help."

The issues Lovato was referring to include an eating disorder and her diagnosis of bipolar disorder.

She said, "I would stay up until like five in the morning just playing guitar and my parents would wake up for work and they'd be like, 'What are you doing? And finally when I got diagnosed I was like, 'Oh, cool, I'm not crazy, it's something.  It's a disease.'"

Many stars keep their problems hidden, but Lovato shares them hoping that people will be able to seek help for their problems instead of hiding.

She is currently busy with promoting her album Unbroken and sitting in the judge seat in The X Factor.
