Meet The Fashionista: Rachel Schwartzmann

Here at Mstars News, we love fashion, style and culture - but even more than that we just love people who follow their passion and dreams.

That is why we were excited to get the chance to interview up and coming fashion and style guru Rachel Schwartzmann whose blog The Style Line has nearly half a million followers via tumblr and has been featured in such notable places as Mashable, Women's Wear Daily and Teen Vogue. Rachel was also recently chosen as one of Tumblr's participating influencers in their seasonal NYFW program and was invited to participate as a digital media influencer in partnership with Teen Vogue at their annual trade show in Las Vegas.

So come join Mstars News as we talk to Rachel about the inspiration behind her site, a little about herself and her shared words of wisdom for anyone trying to start a Fashion/Style blog.

Can You Tell Us A Little Bit About Yourself? Your Background?

Aside from living and breathing The Style Line... I am 21 years old, California-born and New York-grown. I've moved 16+ times, lived in three states, have visited 9 and have also traveled abroad. Movement is a big part of my life, and I'm very curious about people and places.

What Inspired You To Start Your site?

The Style Line was originally born via Tumblr in January 2011. It was right around the time street style was booming, and having grown up in New York I was automatically inspired to join in the fun of documenting the unique style from many of my fellow city-dwellers. The Style Line's name was inspired by the idea of transit, similar to a train system like the MTA, I envisioned the content "traveling" to different (train) "stops" around the city highlighting style in different New York City neighborhoods. That's how the SNAPSHOT STYLE Tumblr interviews (https://thestyleline.tumblr.com/tagged/style-interview) were born, so style and interviews had always been a core to the site. I soon realized that The Style Line's readers wanted follow-up from these SNAPSHOT stories, thus when I relaunched in August 2013  I decided two primary components in The Style Line's content would include style and storytelling. In a nutshell the site is now extension of the Tumblr's DNA and is very community-driven. It's evolving quite nicely.

What Advice Would You Give Someone Wanting To Start Their Own Style Or Fashion Site, Blog?

I would simply say to know what your intentions are, going into it. If you want to do it as a hobby or personal passion project, then great! It's an incredible outlet. If you're looking to monetize, then be honest with yourself about how much time, energy and commitment you can give to growing it. It's a rewarding process no matter what route you take.
