Laura Prepon, star of Netflix series Orange is the New Black is busy promoting the second season of the hit show, but it seems that all people want to know about is whether or not she is dating Hollywood royalty, Tom Cruise.

The actress sat down with SheKnows to talk about Scientology, portraying an LGBT character and those pesky Tom Cruise rumors.

The rumors seem to have been started by the simple fact that both Prepon and Cruise are practicing Scientologist, a religion that people in the media don't always get their facts straight about.

"The thing that sucks is that there's so much false data because people are in mystery as to what Scientology is, so they just kind of make up stuff," Prepon says." It's kind of unfortunate because then I have to be like, 'No, that's actually not what's happening.'"

The press doesn't only make facts up about Scientology but also about Prepon's personal life, most recently that she is dating fellow Scientologist, Tom Cruise.

Prepon tells SheKnows that, "It's just so funny that, when people don't know, they just make stuff up, apparently I'm dating Tom Cruise right now. And apparently he doesn't want me doing the show because I portray a lesbian and I'm a Scientologist. This is false; where are they even getting this stuff? It's unbelievable to me."

One of the most common misunderstandings that Prepon often gets questioned about is, whether or not Scientologists approves of her portrayal of a Lesbian character on Orange is the New Black. Prepon states that Scientologists are not homophobic and that she wants to put that misconception to rest once and for all.

"You know, in terms of portraying a lesbian on the show, I am a huge supporter of the LGBT community. I'm going to the GLAAD Awards in a few weeks. I went to the human rights campaign. I flew up to San Francisco and did this whole thing and I won this award [for] being a straight woman portraying a gay woman on camera. I'm a total supporter of the LGBT and they are an amazing fan base."

However, Prepon doesn't hate all the false information in the media; she thinks that it gives her an opportunity to shed some light on topics people might not understand.

" People who first meet me don't know about Scientology at all- and I'm always willing to talk to whoever about it- but it's funny because, on numerous occasions, they were like, 'I had no idea what Scientology was, but working with you and seeing how you conduct yourself and how you acknowledge people and you're such a professional.' They're like, 'Whatever you're doing with Scientology, it's amazing.'"
