A contestant who will be featured on the upcoming season of The Bachelorette has passed away after suffering serious injury in a paragliding accident.

Eric Hill, who just finished filming on Andi Dorfman's season of the hit ABC series, died after his parachute collapsed this weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah. Unified Fire Authority battalion chief Brian Anderton reports that Hill went into a coma after the parachute malfunctioned. He was found unconscious 100-150 feet up the mountain.

Anderton tells KUTV, a local television station in Salt Lake City, "[Hill] experienced a partial parachute collapse, which swung him into the mountainside with some velocity. It doesn't seem like he fell an extremely long distance, but the velocity that he went into the hillside was enough to cause some trauma."

The paragliding, which took place at Point of the Mountain in Draper, Utah, was not including in filming for The Bachelorette, since Hill had already been eliminated prior to his climb. Instead, the reason for the trek up the mountain was for a documentary Hill was working on called The Global Odyssey. The film was set to follow Hill's journey to all 195 U.N. recognized countries; Hill was trying to visit the countries in world record time.

Eric's sister Karen Tracy took to her Facebook earlier today to reflect on her brothers passing.

"Eric shared his final journey with us this morning as all his immediate family were able to be at his side when he passed away. Thank you to all of your love and support and prayers and fasting. He gave us such a gift of a life fully lived and fully shared, and allowed us all to be a part of his last adventure here on earth."

ABC has yet to comment on the incident but fans of the show are curious as to how the network will address Hill's death when the show premieres May 18 at 9 pm.
