Production on Batman vs. Superman is heating up near Detroit, and news about the project trickles out seemingly every day. The latest piece of information is a somewhat surprising bit of casting news, as the film has tapped Ray Fisher to portray Victor Stone, aka Cyborg, in the movie.

Variety first reported the news and cited a source who said Stone does not play a major part in the Man of Steel sequel, but Cyborg would "become a much more significant role as Warner and D.C. develop more films related to the Justice League universe."

The Hollywood Reporter subsequently confirmed Fisher's casting and added the part only "called for one scene" when Warner Bros. started to look for an actor to play Stone; however, the part promised more work in the future.

It seems that Batman vs. Superman will truly serve as a launching point for a broader DC movie universe, as the trio of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are already in the mix, with more heroes rumored.

In related news, director Zack Snyder spoke to Forbes and discussed, among other things, the reaction to his version of Superman in the movie:

"The thing I was surprised about in response to Superman was how everyone clings to the Christopher Reeve version of Superman, you know? How tightly they cling to those ideas, not really the comic book version, but more the movie version... if you really analyze the comic book version of Superman, he's killed, he's done all the things - I guess the rules that people associate with Superman in the movie world are not the rules that really apply to him in the comic book world, because those rules are different. It's just funny to see people really taking it personally... because I made him real, you know, I made him feel, or made consequences [in] the world. I really wanted to show the violence is real, people get killed or get hurt, and it's not fun or funny. And I guess for me, it was like I wanted a hero in Superman that was a real hero and sort of reflected the world we live in now..."
