The Amazing Spider-Man 2 star Andrew Garfield, a huge fan of the iconic superhero, recently said he would love to see an Ultimate Spider-Man movie with Miles Morales as the lead character. Unfortunately, the producers of the Spidey movies do not seem as enthused by that idea.

Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad spoke to The Playlist, which asked if a Spider-Man other than Peter Parker would appear on the big screen in the future. Tolmach succinctly answered, "No."

Arad expanded on the idea: "The one thing you cannot do, when you have a phenomena [sic] that has stood the test of time, you have to be true to the real character inside - who is Peter Parker? What are the biggest effects on his life? Then you can draw in time, and you can consider today's world in many ways. But to have multiple ones... I don't know if you remember, but Marvel tried it. And it was almost the end of Spider-Man."

It's unclear exactly to what Arad refers, but it could be Ben Reilly's donning of the Spider-Man costume around The Clone Saga. Other iterations of spider-powered heroes include Scarlet Spider, Kaine, Jessica Drew, Miguel O'Hara and Julia Carpenter.

In the Ultimate Spider-Man comic universe, Peter Parker's death gives rise to a new Spider-Man named Miles Morales. Garfield revealed in a recent interview he would like to see an Ultimate Spider-Man movie, as well.

"I have given that thought," Garfield told Comic Book Resources. "Miles Morales was a huge moment in this character's comic book life. And I do believe that we can do that. It's something I'm really interested in figuring out; an eloquent way of coexisting, or passing on the torch. I don't have an answer, but I think it's actually a really important move. I think it's a really beautiful and important move."

But would Garfield want to be involved with the Spider-Man movies long enough to portray an older Peter Parker?

"I want it to feel like a circle. I want the two ends to join, somehow," he said. "I don't know what that means, yet. I don't know what that means in terms of the quantity of Spider-Man movies I do. But I know that I don't particularly want to be a 40-year-old Spider-Man. [Laughs] I do know that time is fleeting."
