Marvel Comics Time Travels Back To The ‘90s In ‘Deadpool Vs. X-Force!’

Deadpool, the mentally unbalanced and disfigured trained assassin, has always had a love/hate relationship with Cable, the leader of the mutant superhero group X-Force. American history isn't safe anymore when these two race into the past in the time-traveling miniseries, Deadpool vs. X-Force.

In the Marvel Universe, Deadpool and Cable, the team leader of the X-Force, have fought side by side and been at each other's throats since their heyday at New Mutants. But their history together goes back even further than the early 90's. Writer Duane Swierczynski and artist Pepe Larraz play around with the whole timey-wimey thing, sending Deadpool and the X-Force back into American history's part. Will they find their right place in time or will they change the course of history by accident?

In an interview with Marvel, Swierczynski spoke how time-traveling will play an essential part in the story, "There are 90's flashbacks as well as 70's flashbacks-1777, that is-60's flashbacks-1863-as well as the inevitable 30's flashbacks-no, this time I do mean the 1930's. It's a time travel saga! There are going to be flashbacks! Or flash forwards, depending on your point of view. If Matthew McConaughey is right in that 'time is a flat circle,' then Deadpool is pretty much popping it on the turntable and scratching the hell out of it."

Swierczynski also teases to readers how Cable and Deadpool will eventually meet, "Many great relationships start with a tragic misunderstanding; at least, that's what my parents always told me, referring to the day I was born. Same goes with Deadpool and Cable. There is both a tragic misunderstanding, but also a bit of the old Hollywood "meet-cute." Only not so cute."
