'Spring Breakers' Sequel in the Works, Will James Franco, Selena Gomez & Ashley Benson Star?

Can you ever go on Spring Break twice?

The creative team behind the movie Spring Breakers seems to think so. Wild Bunch production company is shopping a possible sequel of the breakout hit Spring Breakers to the Cannes Film Festival Market.  

If you are thinking the new film is just in the beginning stages of development, think again. The film which is titled, Spring Breakers: The Second Coming already has a script written by Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting) and has director Jonus Akerlund lined up.

Second Coming will focus on a group of spring breakers, who while vacationing, encounter "an extreme militant Christian sect that attempts to convert them." No news on whether any of the original cast members will be making an appearance in this film, but Huffington Post has learned that there will be references to there characters in the new movie. Details are still unclear about this film as to whether or not it will be a prequel or an indirect sequel to the original. Spring Breakers star James Franco, who played Alien in the original movie, told MTV earlier this year that there had been talk of a possible second film.  

"When we were making the movie, there was talk of a prequel. My character and Gucci Mane's character were supposed to have been former friends, so we at one time talked about, 'What was that like? Let's make that movie!' So there's that. There's a prequel version, or there's the version of Alien's friend or something. I don't know."

Another star of the original movie, Ashley Benson also commented about a possible sequel, on Twitter earlier this year.

Cosmopolitan tweeted at Benson asking if she would ever do a Spring Breakers 2, to which she replied "@Cosmopolitan funny thing. There's been talk about doing a sequel. I think it can only be done once. It would be interesting."
