Based on the DC Comics series, Constantine follows a chain-smoking occult investigator caught in the middle of a war between angels and demons. NBC has released the first trailer for the upcoming TV series that promises to raise Hell.

The trailer starts out with John Constantine (Matt Ryan) being prepped for electroshock therapy. Constantine is believed to be on the verge of losing his mind after claiming to be an exorcist and master of the dark arts. Something from beyond Hell forces John to put on his trench coat and leave the mental institution.

Demons are targeting the daughter, Liv (Lucy Griffiths), of Constantine's oldest friend. In the trailer Harold Perrineau appears to be an angel who warns Constantine something big is coming. The angle flaps his heavenly wings and leaves as Constantine screams at the top of his lungs, "What's on the way?"

The pilot is penned by Man of Steel screenwriter David S. Goyer and directed by Game of Thrones' Neil Marshall. Constantine already joins a growing list of DC Comics titles including, Gotham, iZombie and The Flash, making their way to the TV screen.

Constantine is coming to NBC Fridays this Fall season. Let's see how Constantine fits in with the darker lineup of supernatural/horror TV shows, such as Grimm and Hannibal.
