In case you were wondering if the 1989 Jeane-Claude Van Damme fighting film Kickboxer would be the latest movie franchise to get a modern reboot, it is. Movie stunt man Alain Moussi is set to star in the remake in his first leading role, but this week we found out some other names attached to the project. It turns out UFC champion fighter Georges St. Pierre and WWE star Dave Batista have joined the cast of Kickboxer.
UPROXX reports:
WWE star David Batista and UFC champ Georges St. Pierre climb into the arena for the reboot of 1989 "Kickboxer." Stunt man and martial artist Alain Moussi makes his debut as leading man in the film. The Exchange will be selling the remake at Cannes. Pic will be directed by Stephen Fung ("Tai Chi Zero," "Tai Chi Hero") and produced by Ted Field and his Radar Pictures. Dimitri Logothetis and Nick Celozzi. Mike Weber and Peter Meyer will executive produce as well as Brian O'Shea, Jeff Bowler and Nat McCormick for the Exchange.
St. Pierre was recently in Captain America: The Winter Soldier as Batroc the Leaper, getting beaten up by Chris Evans. Bautista has been in a slew of action flicks including The Man with the Iron Fists and the upcoming 2014 blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy.
Though we don't know much about the film's newcomer, Moussi, we do understand that Batista and St. Pierre can and have done well on the big screen. If anything, this reboot will be interesting to watch grow into a feature film. We'll put it on our list of must-see movies!
