The Fantastic Four movie reboot, directed by Josh Trank and starring Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell, opens up the possibility in fans' minds that the superhero team could crossover and meet up with the mutants from Bryan Singer's X-Men movies, as Fox has the rights to both properties.

But in a recent interview with Screen Crush, writer Simon Kinberg, who has composed scripts for both the X-Men movies and the new Fantastic Four, revealed that the two franchises do not even exist in the same universe.

"Kinberg: Well, it's complicated. Because none of the X-Men movies have acknowledged the notion of a sort of superhero team - the Fantastic Four. And the Fantastic Four acquire powers, so for them to live in a world where mutants are prevalent is kind of complicated, because you're like, 'Oh, you're just a mutant.' Like, 'What's so fantastic about you?'

ScreenCrush: 'We have powers ... just like that team down the street.'

Kinberg: 'Right, right. Exactly, 'So, I guess we'll go to school now. We'll go to Xavier's school.' No, it is, they live in discrete universes."

So it seems like the idea of a superhero team-up extravaganza is squashed, at least for now. Kinberg could be purposely misdirecting fans, or he could be just telling it like it is.

In related news, the Fantastic Four movie recently completed its first week of shooting, according to a tweet from Yahoo! Movies.
