After about a year of rumors concerning the role of X-Men character Gambit in the 2016 sequel to Days of Future Past, entitled Apocalypse, and possible standalone films, producer Lauren Shuler-Donner has confirmed Channing Tatum officially has been cast. This comes after some small talk between Shuler-Donner and Tatum turned into serious meetings about the role after fans showed some interest in the casting. What do you think of this news?

In an interview with Total Film at a recent event promoting the May 23 release of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Shuler-Donner excitedly broke the news.

"It is Channing," the producer said. Asked if this casting news was confirmed she responded, "yes."

"Well, he's a rogue, Channing, he's a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau," Shuler-Donner explained when asked why he was chosen for the role. "And he can handle the action, we all know that. And he's got a really good heart, because I know him personally, I did a movie [2006's She's the Man] with him. So I think he'll be great. He'll be great for Gambit. And he's a Southerner, too. He's not from New Orleans, but he is a Southerner, he understands that world. And you know Gambit loves New Orleans."

We can assume that Tatum's Gambit will be introduced in X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016, but rumors of a standalone film have already come up. With Tatum in the role, a standalone film and a possible franchise is definitely plausible.

Sadly this means that Taylor Kitsch is out of a role. He portrayed Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but has lost out to Tatum for a reprisal.
