Bill Paxton has portrayed John Garrett for several episodes in Season 1 of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which airs its finale Tuesday night. The character has gone from S.H.I.E.L.D. agent to Clairvoyant to HYDRA agent, and it seems like he has one more twist in store this season.

Fans learned last week that Garrett is partly biomechanical, as he served as the first patient in the project that turned Mike Peterson into Deathlok. He was slowly dying, and Fitz's EMP hastened the process. But he convinced Raina to inject him with the one dose of Centipede serum they had perfect with GH325, the alien substance that brought Coulson back to life. Garrett's body reacted violently, but now he is ready for action.

"It affects everything around him. He's been kind of 'reborn,'" Paxton told TVLine. "He was really a dead man, but he's coming back stronger than ever in the finale. But some of his M.O. has changed..."

Garrett's protégé, Grant Ward, has been working among Coulson's team all season, only to turn his backs on them in recent weeks. Garrett ordered Ward to kill Fitz and Simmons, but Ward simply dropped them in an escape pod into the ocean. Could this lead to a conflict between teacher and student?

"We saw in the last episode that it's a pretty warped 'father/son' bond they share," Paxton said in reference to Garrett's pulling Ward out of juvenile prison and then using extreme tactics to train him. "It's the classic thing where at some point, no matter how close you are to the father, the son has to rebel."
