NBC released the first official to their new upcoming TV series, Constantine. Before the occult investigator John Constantine joined the superhero lineup in DC Comics, comic book fans knew him during his early days in Vertigo Comics' Hellbazer. How faithful is the Constantine TV series to the comic book?

Here are five major points from this trailer breakdown that shows just how closely the the TV series is similar to the comic book:

1) Matt Ryan is definitely John Constantine with his wardrobe, accent, and hairstyle. Ryan kept the blonde looks from the comics and shares the same cynical attitude as his comic book counterpart. Viewers can now hear Constantine's British accent, which is only mentioned in the comics.

2) Do my eyes deceive me? Is that a Simon Bisley artwork in the background? Comic book fans already know Bisely as one of the artists who have drawn a punk/rebel version of Constantine. This is a nice homage to the comic book fans.

3) Constantine is one of the few comic book characters who doesn't know how to drive. He has to be driven around in a taxi, which is why he's coming out of the passenger side. Chas, the taxi driver and Constantine's only living friend, makes his way from the comic books page to the TV screen, played by Charles Halford.

4) Staying true to comics, Constantine admitted himself to Ravenscar Psychiatric Hospital. Something bad happened that led to the souls of innocent children being sent to Hell. Based on the trailer, the TV series will delve more into Constantine's back-story, which is only hinted at in the comics.

5) Constantine is a sorcerer who loves to play with magic. In the comics, he can conjure up the power of sunlight to strike down a vampire. In the comics, playing around with the dark arts leads to his friends being killed off by monsters.

It seems like the Constantine TV series is sticking closely to its comic book source material. Constantine joins NBC's Friday night light lineup this upcoming fall season.
