The real reason behind the now infamous brawl that occurred between Jay Z and Solange in an elevator after the Met Gala has possibly been revealed.

Turns out that the fight all started because Jay was supposedly getting a little too close with business partner Damon Dash's ex-wife Rachel Roy, a source reveals exclusively to E! News.

"At the gala, Rachel was being flirtatious with Jay. Once everyone was at Boom Boom Room for the after-party, her flirtations were elevated."

The source also goes on to say that Beyoncé witnessed the whole thing, and thought Rachel's behavior was completely inappropriate.

"Beyoncé approached Rachel to let her know the behavior was disrespectful and she wanted her out of their lives for good. Solange came over to have her sister's back, and things got heated with her and Rachel. Jay said some disrespectful things to Beyoncé and Solange as the confrontation was going down. That's why all hell broke loose in the elevator and why Beyoncé just stood back and let Solange hit Jay."

The elevator brawl which occurred after The Met Gala at the Standard Hotel will now go down in the Knowles family history book.

Since the beatdown, the couple has attempted to get back to their daily lives as if nothing had occurred. Beyoncé and Jay Z were last seen at the Brooklyn Nets game on Monday, May 12 , and Bey took daughter Blue Ivy to a quiet Mother's Day Brunch, this past weekend.

As for Solange, the source tells E! News that, "Solange's primary residence is now in New Orleans not Brooklyn. She is in [New Orleans] getting back to her normal life: being a mom, taking her son to school and trying to get on with it."

E! reached out to Rachel Roy's camp for a comment on the incident, but have yet to hear back.
