Brittney Griner is one of the most talented WNBA players we've seen. She helped her college team win a national championship and then became the No. 1 pick in the 2013 WNBA draft, so it's fair to say she's used to the spotlight. However, she has opened up about the attention she has received since she revealed she was gay.

The star explains what it was like whilst she was at Baylor, saying "I definitely wasn't hiding who I was at Baylor. It was never an issue to feel rejected by my teammates. They were definitely understanding and welcoming with me being who I am. The coaches were, too."

Griner, 23, was 15 when she came out to her friends and family, but it seems like problems occurred elsewhere for the star. "Other players, they can go out on Valentine's Day with their boyfriends and it'd be no problem," she explains. "I go out with my girlfriend, I'm getting a phone call, 'Brittney, what were you doing on Valentine's Day?' I had to take my Tweet down. I was like, why do I have to take my Tweet down when my teammates don't have to take theirs down? It definitely felt like there was a double standard."

Griner just hopes that being open about her lovelife will help future gay athletes. "People tell me I'm going to break the barrier and trailblaze," she confessed. "I just kind of look at it like, I'm just trying to help out, I'm just trying to make it where it's not as tough for the next generation." The baller is hoping to change the way of thinking at Baylor, saying "To break something, we have to bring it up, we have to get it out there, and eventually the topic will start to become more of a conversation,"

With brave women like Griner around, it's only a matter of time until everybody has the equality to behave in a way that truly reflects who they are.
