Jesse Eisenberg's casting as Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder's Batman vs. Superman was not without controversy, but the actor's skills are extremely difficult to deny. In a recent interview, he explained why he took the part in a blockbuster movie after his previous work in films such as The Social Network and Adventureland.

"It's important to be in those big things," the Oscar nominee told MTV News. "I happen to want to do this movie because the character is awesome, but it's also important to be in those for some kind of longevity."

Lex Luthor is one of the most dark and complex characters in comic books, so Eisenberg will have plenty of material to work with once he gets underway. And based on his comments, he's looking forward to it.

"The character is, luckily, a really great character," he said. "Actors can sometimes find really cool things in characters that aren't written well. This character is written really well."

MTV News also asked him about the spotlight that will now be on him because of his participation in Batman vs. Superman.

"For a movie like The Double or Night Moves, arguably me doing interviews for it is much more important for it than doing an interview for Batman, because there's not that much money for posters," he explained. "Whereas for Batman, if I was in a coma after it was filmed...So I don't really see it as that different."

Despite this, Eisenberg said he does not seek out the attention like his character would.

"You're just exposed to more people, so walking down the street is more annoying," he said.

What do you think, Superman fans? Do you think Eisenberg will succeed in the role?
