CW Network has released an early look at their upcoming TV series, iZombie. In a twisted take on the zombie genre, Rose McIver (Showtime's Masters of Sex) plays Olivia "Liv" Moore, a semi-detective on an undead feeding frenzy.

Based on the Vertigo Comics series from writer Chris Roberson and artist Mike Allred, follows Gwen Dylan, a gravedigger during the day and a zombie detective during the night. In order to survive the next month, the decomposing Gwen has to feed on a dead body's brains. When her mind gets filled up with someone else's thoughts, the detective-in-training has to fulfill their last requests.

Based on the first images, we can tell Veronica Mars Rob Thomas isn't skimping on the horror and quirkiness. The iZombie executive producer/director has an image of Gwen, now renamed "Liv" for the TV show, eating brains from a bowl. Hinting at the murder mystery aspect of the comic, we also see Liv waking up next to a skeletal corpse, surrounded by cops.

On their official website, DC Comics posted the official synopsis of the crime/zombie drama. The series explains how the female protagonist's undead appearance passes for Goth. In staying true to Allred's artwork, her skin tone is painted pale and her hair is nearly white. Posing as a psychic, Liv investigates crimes and discovers who is soley responsible.

From the official synopsis:

Liv remains resigned to an eternity without hope or purpose, until she realizes that with every brain she consumes, she retains a portion of that person's memories. Liv begins to experience visions from the point of view of the murder victims. Much to the surprise of Dr. Ravi and homicide detective Clive Babineaux, Liv often has detailed knowledge of crime scenes and motives that she can't easily explain.

DC Comics promises a first look trailer of iZombie will be coming soon. We will be keeping you posted when the trailer officially comes out.

iZombie seems to combine horror, comedy, and police procedural all into one show. Readers, are you excited for iZombie this upcoming season.
