The Charlotte Hornets were a fundamental part of the NBA, but they took up the name "Bobcats" ten seasons ago, joining as a new expansion team. The Hornets had relocated to New Orleans, and still had the name, meaning Charlotte's expansion team couldn't continue in all its former glory. As of today they've got it back. They have launched a new website and social media accounts to showcase their name change.

Charlotte's owner, Michael Jordan, said, "Today is truly an historic day for our franchise, our city and our fans as we mark the official return of the Charlotte Hornets. Thanks to our fans who were the driving force behind the Hornets name returning. We are thrilled to be able to bring the Hornets name back to the Carolinas." Michael Jordan has always had his history explored and envied, so perhaps he realized how valuable and important it was to the organization in getting its original name back."

The Hornets will reclaim their history, records and all of their original statistics, meaning they can start to honour the earlier existence of their newly-named team. Some are delighted with this move, but after getting used to the new team and their "Bobcats" name, some are having trouble adjusting back to the old name, but it'll be something they love before long.

Is this a smart, sentimental move, or will the Hornets miss their former name? Can this spark the franchise back to life again, especially coming after a season of growth, that included a playoff appearance?
