Charlie Day is best known for his roles on FXX's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia as well as movies like Pacific Rim and Horrible Bosses, so when he went back to his alma mater, Merrimack College, to give a commencement speech, graduates were pretty excited. Though Day did make the audience laugh, he also shared his experiences from his time at the college and his life after. Most importantly, the successful actor/director/producer/writer shared valuable words of wisdom and encouragement to those leaving the college he had graduated from in 1998.

"I have expanded my mind, destroyed my liver, but I never gave up," Day told the graduating class of 2014, using his humor to make a point about how their degrees are a symbol of what they have accomplished.

"You cannot let a fear of failure or a fear of comparison or a fear of judgment stop you from doing what's going to make you great," he said. "You cannot succeed without this risk of failure. You cannot have a voice without the risk of criticism and you cannot love without the risk of loss."

"If I was going to run the risk of failure, I wanted it to be in a place where I'd be proud to fail, doing something I wanted to do," the actor said, explaining how an entry-level job he had out of college had to end if he wanted to start working on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

"Don't wait for your break, make your break," Day said. "Go make it happen for yourself."
