Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 Spoilers on Fitz and Simmons

One of the many plot threads addressed in the Season 1 finale of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was Fitz's love for Simmons, as he finally confessed that love in their near-death situation at the bottom of the sea.

He then nearly sacrificed himself to save her life, but he managed to barely survive. Toward the end of the episode, fans learned that Fitz was alive but somewhat changed, though we did not see him on screen.

So does Fitz's confession of love mean he and Simmons will be sneaking around for make out sessions and doodling each other's names in their lab notebooks?

"Not so fast!," reports the "Mega Buzz" column at TV Guide. "Did you notice that when Simmons kissed Fitz, she smooched him everywhere but on ​his actual mouth? 'Clearly, any time one person says something and a person doesn't reciprocate, it changes things,' executive producer Jeffrey Bell tells me. 'It's safe to say there will be consequences.' Further complicating matters: Producers want to keep Agent Triplett around."

Triplett, played by B.J. Britt, flirted with Simmons a bit throughout the end of the season and Fitz became jealous, so we'll see how that plays out next year.

As a matter of fact, just as the season finale faded to black on Tuesday night, we asked Clark Gregg about Coulson's plum new job title. 'It's a very important gig,' he acknowledged. 'I saw it [Monday] night for the first time myself, and I got choked up watching it. As someone who grew up reading the S.H.I.E.L.D. comics, I kind of couldn't believe what I was seeing. It is a big deal' - especially given the second post-credits scene, which suggested that all is not right in Coulson's mind. 'I think it's interesting that Director Fury gave Agent Coulson this job, given that he still has GH-325 pumping through him,' Gregg observed. 'We don't know 100 percent what he is, but we'll see what happens. It'll be an exciting Season 2.'"
