After Steven Tyler of Aerosmith announced that he officially quit American Idol 11 on Thursday (July 12), a promising new name popped out on the list of potentials. It is none other than veteran songstress Mariah Carey.

A source revealed to PEOPLE that executives of American Idol are in "serous talks" with Carey. The only original Idol judge Randy Jackson happens to be Carey's manager so it all seems to fit into place.

It is also rumored that Jackson may step it up to become a mentor on the show leaving 3 empty judge spots, if Jennifer Lopez leaves the show as well.

Lopez' has hinted on the TODAY show on Thursday (July 12) that she thinks it might be "time for me to go." This happened several hours before Tyler's official announcement.

Some experts said to MTV News that it is a positive thing to see the judge panel replaced with a fresh set judges who will actually "judge" instead of being nice "cheerleaders" as Lopez and Tyler have been.
