James DeGale has been targeting a fight with IBF and WBA middleweight champion Carl Froch or rival George Groves for a long while. With this in mind it seemed perfect that he should be given a place on one of boxing's biggest ever events. A couple of months ago it was announced that on May 31st 2014, George Groves and Carl Froch would go head-to-head in front of 80,000 people at Wembley Stadium, with James DeGale taking on the unbeaten American boxer Brandon Gonzales.

So, why was this perfect for DeGale? James was told the winner of his fight would fight the winner of the middleweight main event, meaning the final two fights of this event linked, and perfectly so, too. DeGale came out in style, throwing powerful punches, despite people saying he couldn't win this fight. DeGale continued his impressive form and the fight was stopped after he had dropped Gonzales, and then continued to hit him with fast punches once he stood up.

DeGale, who barely broke a sweat, got up, got comfortable and watched the main event. Afterwards he reminded everybody that he'd been promised a fight at the winner, and he wants to fight Carl Froch. Will it happen, or will he have to beat another contender?

With the world watching the historical boxing event, James DeGale has done his reputation no harm, but Gonzales has, with the fighter coming in to the ring jet-lagged and seemingly uninterested. What's next for all of these world famous middleweight fighters? Stay tuned to Mstars to find out.
