Liverpool Complete Signing of Southampton & England Striker Rickie Lambert

Liverpool have two of the best strikers in the world in Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, but it hasn't stopped them from signing veteran Rickie Lambert, from Southampton, to compete with their dynamic duo. Ironically the three are all at the World Cup, showing the strength Liverpool have in that position now. For Lambert it was a dream come true as he supported Liverpool as a boy and was a youth team player there, too.

The 32-year-old forward has signed a two-year contract at the Anfield club. With many slating footballers for their lack of love for the game, it's refreshing to see Rickie Lambert's joy at completing his dream move. He explained "I can't believe it. I've loved this club all my life. I left here 17 years ago and I haven't stopped loving it since. I have always dreamt of playing for Liverpool, but I did kind of think the chance of playing for them had gone. I didn't think the chance would come."

Did Rickie tell the world about his dream move? Apparently not, as he explained "I've been trying to keep it as low-key as possible. Only telling close family. My mum and dad shed a few tears when I told them, my mum in particular." The Liverpool forward scored 14 goals in 39 games for the Saints last season, and now he can bring that experience to the UEFA Champions League, which Liverpool will compete in next season.

Rickie Lambert had a lot of love for his old club and it was hard to leave, but he had kind words for his old team as he said "The five-year plan when I arrived was to get this club from League One to the top half of the Premier League. Against all the odds we have achieved that,"

What's next for Lambert, and isn't ironic that a player who spent most of his career playing lower-league football, will now be at both the World Cup and in the UEFA Champions League in 2014. What a fitting end to his career.
