Marvel has announced the latest filmmaker who will bring their costumed superhero to the big screen. Scott Derrickson, the Sinister horror director, will helm the Doctor Strange movie.

The Hollywood Reporter has discovered that Marvel Studios has found a noteworthy filmmaker to direct its latest superhero movie. And no, it's not for Ant-Man. Known for his indie horror cred, Derrickson has signed on to direct the Doctor Strange feature film adaptation.

In the Marvel Universe, Doctor Strange actually started out as a real medical physician. After a car accident made his hands useless in the medical field, Stephen Vincent Strange traveled to the Himalayas in search of the Ancient One. Though Strange is narcissistic and completely selfish, the Ancient One sees goodness in the failed surgeon and teaches him the mystic arts. After his mentor is murdered, Strange would later on become known the Sorcerer Supreme.

With enemies such as Nightmare and the Devil himself, Mephisto, the Doctor Strange movie is definitely geared for this horror director, who has made a successful run with micro-budget thrillers. The Devil's Knot screenwriter also has experience dealing with a big budget flick, such as The Day the Earth Stood Still remake.

Derrickson also made the announcement on his official Twitter:

In this selfie pic, you can see the Hellraiser: Inferno director holding an old-school Doctor Strange comic in front of his face.

Derrickson's latest horror flick, Deliver Us from Evil, will hit theaters on July 2. As of right now, the search for screenwriter is still taking place for Doctor Strange.
