Earlier this month, Godzilla director Gareth Edwards was named the first filmmaker to helm one of the upcoming Star Wars standalone movies coming out with the rebooted trilogy. This week we learned that Chronicle filmmaker Josh Tank would also be taking on another standalone feature as well.

The similarities between Tank and Edwards are pretty great. For instance, both caught major attention for their independent sci-fi films with Tank directing Chronicle and then signing on to helm the Fantastic Four reboot and Edwards landed 2014 hit Godzilla after his feature debut Monsters.

Needless to say, Lucasfilm is signing incredible directors up for these films, including J.J. Abrams who is directing Star Wars: Episode VII.

"The magic of the Star Wars universe defined my entire childhood," Trank said in a statement this week. "The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time."

"We're thrilled to welcome Josh into the family," said Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. "He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX."

Considering the order of these director announcements compared to the leaked Hasbro Star Wars movie details (CLICK HERE for more on that), it looks like Tank could be helming a Han Solo (or Solo related character - we're still not sure) standalone film project!
