Marvel is already setting up its actor list for the Doctor Strange feature film. With a director already at the helm, the search begins to find the right lead actor to play the Master of the Dark Arts.
As reported here, Marvel has already picked out Scott Derrickson as the director of heir upcoming superhero movie. Now the Sinister filmmaker needs to choose his star.
Deadline reports Tom Hardy (Inception) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek: Into Darkness) are on the list. IGN has also reported Academy Award winner Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) is among the roster. This is already an impressive list to start with.
Comic book fans already know Hardy as Bane, the super villain who broke Batman's back in The Dark Knight Rises. The Warrior actor already has his comic book cred established. But is Hardy too muscular for a Marvel superhero who doesn't fight? In the comics, Doctor Strange waves his arms around, casting magic spells from his fingertips.
There would be nothing better than to have an Oscar winner star in the next Marvel movie. But is Leto too you to play the Sorcerer Supreme? In the comics, Stephen Vincent Strange is in his prime 40s, with streaks of white hair. Marvel may have to change the character design and age if they want Leto to star in the lead.
Cumberbatch is already known amongst geeks for his Sherlock role. Strange is a hero but his proud ego and selfishness get in his way. I was rooting for the big bad Khan in Star Trek. Cumberbatch might be the best choice because with him in the role, audiences will still root for a flawed character.
Readers, what do you think so far Marvel's wish list for Doctor Strange? Has the perfect choice shown up among this roster?
