Netflix's Orange is the New Black Season 2 Episode 3 Review

New inmates arrive at the prison and among them is none other than Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling).

This episode is looks back on Suzanne 'Crazy Eyes' Warren's (Uzo Aduba) past.  Last season, we learned that she was adopted by a white couple when she was young. This season, we learn that the couple had, had a difficult time conceiving their own child which is why they looked towards adoption.  When they are able to conceive a child, they call her their "miracle child" and name her Grace.  

Suzanne instantly takes on the role of being the older sister and the two of them go everywhere together.  Unfortunately, her mother must have a show-down with another mother who tries to discriminate against Suzanne at a birthday slumber party.  Suzanne appears to have always had her uneasy temperament, but the roots seem to come from the human need to belong.

Similar to Suzanne, another inmate struggling to belong is Vee (Lorraine Toussaint) and she gravitates to Suzanne.  After Suzanne recovers Vee's cigarettes, she tells Vee she's afraid of "Dandelion" (Piper). Vee tells her, "Hold your head up high because at the end of the day you are a garden rose and that b**** is a weed."  This bode of confidence reassures Suzanne while the cigarette aid Vee in securing a cake from Gloria Mendoza (Selenis Leyva).

The cake Vee secured is used to unite all of the younger black women of the prison.  Vee's connection with Suzanne gives Suzanne a positive look in everyone else's eyes, but makes Taystee (Danielle Brooks) a bit jealous.  The cigarettes, however, turn out to be stale and Gloria realizes she has be duped.  On the outskirts of all the manipulation, Galina 'Red' Reznikov (Kate Mulgrew) keeps her eyes on Vee, as she knows Vee from a previous jail sentence and knows that Vee is up to something.

On an unfortunate side note, Lorna Morello (Yael Stone) learns that her fiance is marrying another woman on the same day the two of them were supposed to wed.

Meanwhile on the outside, Larry Bloom (Jason Biggs) is dating other women.
