Peterborough United and ex-Fulham defender Gabriel Zakuani spent many years together, enjoying promotions, and suffering from relegations. With one year remaining on his contract in the summer of 2013, he stated his intent to leave. He stayed until January, in which he joined Greek team FC Kalloni. However, in a strange turn of events, it seemed the pair missed one another and today it was confirmed that Posh have handed their one-time captain a new two-year contract.

In sports they say to never go back, but apparently the club and player just couldn't be apart any longer. After 6 months in the Greek sunshine, Zakuani is ready to embrace his 'homecoming'. Things happen very quickly in football. I missed the club. This feels like a homecoming. I feel like there is unfinished business here. I want to get this club back to the Championship."

Did he not prefer the Greek lifestyle over the wet British weather? He explained "I really enjoyed my time in Greece, but I really missed the club and it hurt me when we were beaten in the play-offs. I can't wait to get started again." It seems he prefers home, even if some aspects are far more miserable. There's no place like home.

Zakuani explained his delight, saying "'I am really excited for the new season. I feel like a kid at Christmas. I just cannot wait to put the Peterborough shirt on again," He is looking forward to playing with Jack Baldwin, who was actually his replacement. He explained the hope of developing a great understanding with Jack, saying "I have watched Jack Baldwin a couple of times and he reminds me of Ryan Bennett. Hopefully I can help Jack and form a good partnership with him if we are selected together."

Now Gabriel is home, will he fire Peterborough United to promotion?
