The latest Game of Thrones episode, "The Watchers on the Wall," featured a major battle between the Night's Watch and the Wildling army at Castle Black. The penultimate Season 4 episode featured a bloody and magnificent spectacle and, of course, plenty of deaths. But one, in particular, stood out to fans.

[WARNING: MAJOR GAME OF THRONES SPOILERS BELOW]

Ygritte (Rose Leslie) took an arrow through the chest and met her end after she hesitated to kill Jon Snow (Kit Harington) when she had the chance.  "She finally looks at him and can't bring herself to do it," Leslie told EW.com. "She hesitates. It's that hesitation that's the ruin of her, really."

The moment is a quiet one in the midst of a loud, chaotic episode, and director Neil Marshall said that was intentional. "We always try not to use slo-mo, but for this particular moment it was needed to keep [Jon and Ygritte] within the bubble of their own while seeing the wider world this was happening in and try to milk it for as much emotion as possible," he told EW when asked about the lack of slow-motion in the show. "So I felt it worked for that shot. But I agree that in general the show works better without it. It keeps it more immediate."

Harington also told EW that it has been "a dream" working with Leslie in the last few seasons. "She's a consummate professional and the most wonderfully generous lovely person. We got on so very, very well," he said. As for her final day on set, "It was a really sad moment. Luckily for us her last scene was the scene where she was shot - I've never seen a crew respond to a character's death that way. It's a testament to how popular she was."
