Channing Tatum still has not officially signed on to play Gambit, but he and the studio continue to talk about the role as if it is a done deal and media outlets continue to treat it as such. In a new interview to promote 22 Jump Street, the actor talks about learning Gambit's famous Cajun accent.

Tatum sat down with Latino-Review to promote his movie, in which he once again co-stars with Jonah Hill, but did not reveal any new details about his contract status or the character. But he did offer a few tidbits about learning the accent, which he pledges would be serious rather than goofy. He wants to blend in a creole patois, which he calls a "Jedi mind trick" and says might need subtitles for people to understand. We're sure he's joking about that last part. Check out the brief interview below:

Tatum also recently spoke to Screen Rant, which asked him about director Bryan Singer's desire to put Gambit into Apocalypse.

"I would do anything to be in those movies," Tatum said. "I mean, I love the Marvel world and what they've created as a real brand and they've sort of changed the face of the industry. I would be in anything they put up, especially Gambit."

As for the costume, Tatum noted the filmmakers have to "figure out" the character's famous headpiece. He also stated it would not be a good idea to just introduce Gambit in his full costume because it wouldn't make total sense. "It's gonna be a slow figuring out of the design," he said.

"You kind of have to slowly massage it into a world you believe and that is honest to what the actual property and what the history of the character was... People know and love this character so you have to be honest to what it was in the comics, and you also have to give them something they believe and that they're not expecting. And so, it's a really delicate line to walk on and we're just going to take our time and figure it out."
