Last week, fans of the hit TV series Game of Thrones and the novels, A Song of Ice and Fire, on which the show is based, learned they could get into George R.R. Martin's next book for $20,000, only to have the author slaughter their character. Now, the winners (or losers, depending on how you look at it) of this promotion have been revealed.

Facebook employee David Goldblatt is one of the two winners. He spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about getting into the book.

"I'm fortunate enough to be in a position to do this cool thing, and it's going toward a good cause - I don't think I'm doing anything extraordinary," he said.

Obviously the name Goldblatt doesn't jive with the names in A Song of Ice and Fire, so Martin would likely change his name. But Goldblatt said he wants "to be a Valyrian if at all possible, but [Martin] figures it out himself. I wouldn't want to impinge upon his creative process."

As part of the prize, the winner can choose his or her "character's station in the world (lording, knight, peasant, whore, lady, maester, septon, anything)."

Martin is raising money for the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary and The Food Depot of Santa Fe, according to Prizeo. The author offered other prizes, including T-shirts, personalized thank you notes, a script signed by the Game of Thrones cast and a hat Martin once wore.

The author also told THR that he would try to give the chosen fans a death befitting their generosity.

"Despite my sinister repute, I actually find it hard to kill off characters that I've been writing about for some time. Good guys or bad guys, they're all my children," Martin says. "But this time the slaughter should be easy, since the victims will be laying down their lives in a good cause. I will do my best to make their ends memorable."

How would you like to die in Martin's novels? Let us know in the comments below.
