'Guinness Book Of World Records' Oldest Living Cat Has Passed Away - Rest In Peace to Mister Poppy

Rest in peace little kitty!!

Sad news today for cat lovers out there, the Guinness World Record holder for "world's oldest living cat," has just passed away at the ripe young age of 24. Poppy, a member of the West family from Bournemouth, England was born in 1990 and became a permanent member of their family in 1995. The tabby cat is now chasing mice, and eating tuna fish cakes every day, in the good old cat paradise in the sky.

What makes this news even sadder is that Poppy was the same age as us. However, while she was only here for a short time, she has lived a full life. The British cat got to witness firsthand some truly remarkable events in her lifetime for example, the rise and fall of the Spice Girls, Prince William and Kate's wedding, and even the new London cat café, which we're sure she would have visited on a daily basis.

We knew she was old but it's still very upsetting," Jacqui West owner of Poppy tells Daily Express "We knew it was going to happen but we're all still completely devastated. It's only just starting to sink in. It's great she managed to get the World Record before hand; it's almost like she was purposely hanging in there because the process took months."

Coincidently, Poppy died just two days before Alexander Imich, the record holder for "world's oldest man", who passed away at the age of 111.

West tells the news site that you would never have known that Poppy was the world's oldest cat because she was "still quite feisty," even in her old age.

The cat is survived by her four kitty siblings, a hamster, a rabbit, her mom Jacqui, and Jacqui's two sons.
