Both Mexico and Camerron watched Brazil grab the 3-1 victory over Croatia on the opening night of the World Cup, and both would of been thinking the same thing. That they simply must win their opening game against one another the following night. Both teams went for it, with Mexico predicted to be the slightly better team. After a rampant first half Mexico went in level, but grapped the all important goal in the second half.

Mexico had two first-half goals, but both were perhaps wrongly ruled out for offside. Despite Cameroon sitting back and inviting Mexico to attack, they never paid for that mistake, largely down to the pair of disallowed goals. Both teams were cagey, in an attempt to ensure they grabbed at least one point, but Mexico always looked slightly more willing to risk it all for a win and they got what they deserved.

Mexico and Cameroon, on this showing, will struggle to beat Brazil, and perhaps Croatia, too, but with these valuable 3 points, Mexico know they have a good chance of qualifying out of the group stage. Mexico scored in the 61st minute when Dos Santos took the ball and hit at the keeper, with the rebound falling to Oribe Peralta, who coolly slotted the ball in to the back of the net. Javier Hernandez came off the bench looking to grab a second, but missed his one glorious chance.

Mexico will be full of confidence, whilst Cameroon will know they need a minor miracle to now qualify from Group A.
