Jeremy Renner is set to reprise his role of Aaron Cross in the fifth Bourne film, but just this week it was announced that its 2015 release date had been pushed back to 2016. Now a new rumor has sprung up claiming this delay was to fit the Jason Bourne actor, Matt Damon, back into the series after plenty of speculation about the star's return.

This new claim comes from Latino Review, which is correct about movie rumors the majority of the time!

Earlier this year, Damon said he'd be "open" to returning to the action movie series if director Paul Greengrass was also on board and the story made sense. Unfortunately, Justin Lin is sitting in the director's chair this time around, so unless Greengrass produces the film we might have to discredit this rumor.

"I've always been open to it if Paul Greengrass is the director. We've just never been able to come up with a story," he told CNBC at the time. "So if any of your viewers have a story, please call Universal and submit it."

But who knows? Damon could've easily changed his mind on this stance. Perhaps he missed the action and decided to jump into the movie, thus delaying the release altogether.

We're just trying to work this out!

What do you think of this new rumor claiming Matt Damon will in fact return to the Bourne movie series?

We'll have to wait for a more solid update on this speculation, but we do know that this yet-to-be-titled sequel is hitting theaters July 15, 2016.
