Fans who have been closely following the news on Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice are likely aware of the giant Superman statue that has been present during filming in Pontiac, Michigan. The statue has rested in front of a large green screen for quire a while, but it seems as though the crew took it down recently. Now, we might know why that is.

A Twitter user captured some photos from the set in which extras dressed as police officers, firemen and EMTs placed flowers on the broken remains of the statue. It's unclear exactly what this means, and it's also unclear whom or what destroyed the statue, but it's certainly interesting to note.

You can check out one photo at the top of the page and the rest here.

Batman-News also has a nugget of information that pertains to The Daily Planet in the movie:

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is heading to The Daily Planet, according to an email sent out to extras that was obtained by MLive. The scene was shot earlier today, but could still be going on right now since it was expected to take up to 14 hours. The casting email said that 'citizens' were needed for the scene. Man of Steel ended with Clark Kent getting a job at The Daily Planet, so it'll be interesting to see if Henry Cavill or Amy Adams are present in this scene as well."

Why do you think these extras are placing flowers on the statue? Who destroyed it? Will the Daily Planet appear in the movie? Let us know in the comments below.
