At the tender age of 25, it turns out Amanda Longacre is officially too old to hold her Miss America beauty pageant title. Now runner-up, Brittany Lewis, who is only a year younger, will be named the newly Miss Delaware.
Originally the Miss America contestant was awarded the title of Miss Delaware. But, rules and regulations state that qualified contestants could not turn 24 before December 31. According to the Miss America stipulation, the Delaware native is disqualified because she celebrates being 25 years younger in October.
The pageant organization made a statement to the press, "Following the Miss Delaware Pageant, it was determined that Amanda Longacre exceeded the age requirement in order to be eligible to compete therefore, the Miss Delaware 2014 title is awarded to Brittany Lewis. The Miss Delaware Pageant is proud to congratulate Brittany and wishes Amanda the very best on her future endeavors."
If you notice on the Miss Delaware website, the entire screen has gone entirely blank. None of the pictures of Longacre, even the photos taken from the event, appear on the site. A single message states, "The Miss Delaware Website is currently being updated. Please check back soon."
Fighting back tears, Longacre tells Delaware Online, "I feel like I'm being erased."
In a brief ceremony at the Dover Downs Hotel Casino, Lewis received the glitz and glamour of her pageant crown. The newly crowned winner will receive scholarship money, a year's contract as Miss Delaware, and a chance to win the Miss America title in Atlantic City, New Jersey, this September.
