One Italian couple gets in each others' face the way you get into your pint's.

Häagen-Dazs took it to the next level in a new, Italian commercial for its line of Gelato. The question swirling around the blogosphere: is the commercial racist? Portraying a dysfunctional Italian couple who are about to rip each other's throats out.  That is until they are brought together through the love of Häagen-Dazs' Gelato.

The Urban Politico wrote, "Of course if you must be stereotyped, being thought of as passionate, hot tempered, sexy and intense is not necessarily the worst stereotype to bear. Or is it?"

This is not the first time the ice cream company made headlines over its advertisements. In a campaign based in India, an advertisement stated the ice cream was an, "Exclusive Preview for International Travellers. Access restricted only to holders of international passports," Ad Age reported. The ad was a reference to the French Riviera, but some Indians took it as "an insult of Indian nationals."

According to Ad Age, "Häagen-Dazs executives said that if anyone was barred from entering the store, it was only because it was to crowded, and apologized for the unfortunate wording of the teaser ad."

Check out the video below and be the judge. Let us know in the comments below whether you think Häagen-Dazs should issue an apology to the Italian community or if you think the controversy is overblown.
