Ever since LeBron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers, their love swiftly switched to their new star, Kyrie Irving, however, many believed he'd do the same and bolt towards a better team, like James did with the Miami Heat, as soon as he had a chance. Because of rookie restrictions, today was the first day the Cavaliers and Irving could talk about an extension, and Irving and owner Dan Gilbert shook hands on a deal that will see Kyrie remain a Cavalier. The deal will see his five-year contract extension inked next week, and during that time he will earn the maximum, which is $90 million. Not a bad summer for the Cavaliers.

Rumours have gone back and forth for a long while, with some suggesting he would receive no offer, and some stating he "most definitely would", however last night it emerged that an offer would be made the second it legally could be made. Now their star player has been secured to their roster, they can pursue other options. One of them is in fact to bring James back to Cleveland and pair him with the star that mended the broken hearts he shattered upon leaving Cleveland.

The Cavaliers now have a young core to build around, with the main focus being Irving and the newly-signed Andrew Wiggins. They will then make offers to former Cavalier Spencer Hawes and James, which would see their team take an all-star appearance if it was to come together.

Was this smart business for the Cavaliers? Can securing both Wiggins and Irving for the foreseeable future attract James or another top free agent? At the moment there's no stopping Cleveland.
