Before Dakota Johnson landed the coveted role of the highly anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey film adaptation, there was a long line of actresses auditioning for the much-hyped lead. Even Pretty Little Liars starlet, Lucy Hale, reveals what happened when she tried out for the steamy part.

For book readers, the 5 Shades of Grey trilogy follows virginal Anastasia Steele who stumbles onto a dark and sexual world. Her lover, Christian Grey, invests himself fully into the BDSM lifestyle. This is exactly the type of female role that asks for tons of nudity on camera, and complete confidence to go along with it.

A lot of names were thrown out in Hollywood when the best-selling erotic book was being made into a movie. You had Twilight's Kristen Stewart and Vampire Diaries Nina Dobrev all thrown into mix, including Hale's as well. Hale spills to MTV about what happened during her "awkward" audition.

Hale remembers from her screen test, "Very uncomfortable, but it was sort of one of those things where you just had to go for it, or you're just going to look lame - hopefully, I didn't look lame."

When asked if the material she read was pretty racy, the brunette beauty agrees and will try to prevent her grandmother from watching the steamy movie. Though she didn't land the role, Hale is actually hyping up the steamy flick. We also learn that Johnson, who landed the part, had to more than let loose and leave her comfort zone behind.

Before Dakota Johnson landed the most sought-after role in Fifty Shades of Grey, Pretty Little Liars actress Lucy Hale auditioned for the part as well but lost. Readers, would you have chosen Hale over Johnson?
