Fans are going to have to say goodbye to Glee a lot sooner than they expected.

It was just announced that the sixth and finale season of the Fox musical comedy series will only feature 13 new episodes, much less than the 22 that the creators originally thought.

In May of this year, Fox's, now former president, Kevin Reilly, said that he thought the network would want to reduce the season order from 22 episodes down to just 13.

"The order is currently for 22, but we're actually going to sit down with Ryan Murphy and really talk about how we're going to end it and figure that out," Reilly explains. "We're going to sit down and talk about exactly the best way to end the show now and how much that is."

The news was just confirmed by E! News who also got the inside scoop on what the feel for the last few episodes will be like from creator Ryan Murphy himself.

"I mean the final season is really its own story and its own location and while the New York stuff will be alive, the final season is really not New York-centric at all," the creator revealed.

In addition to moving away from New York, fans can also expect to see a time jump into the future.

Most of the cast is expected to return for the final episodes, yes even Chris Colfer, who suffered a Twitter hack last week claiming he was fired from the show due to personal reason.

One major difference when the show returns during the midseason of 2015, is that Naya Rivera will no longer be a series regular. Rivera has requested that her part on the show be reduced to a recurring guest star.

Despite the ever revolving door of cast members coming and going, Murphy says that he would like to have anyone who wants to return to come back for the final episodes.

"My feelings about the last season of Glee is very clear, and that is that we will be reaching out to all of the regulars on the show, the original group of Glee club members and the teachers, and anybody who wants to come back can come back," Murphy explains. "Anybody who wants to be a party of the show, we welcome them."

Catch the final season of Glee when it premieres, uninterrupted, in 2015.
