The How I Met Your Mother spinoff entitled How I Met Your Dad was announced to a mixed reaction from fans of the long-running CBS sitcom, but there was no doubt the project was high profile. But CBS surprisingly did not order it to series, and the show went into a sort of limbo. Now, however, it seems the project is truly dead.

E! Online reports through a source that How I Met Your Dad is "definitely dead for now. And nothing further is happening with it at the moment."

HIMYM co-creator Carter Bays tweeted his own eulogy of sorts in light of the reports:

"HIMYD was fun to work on, terrific cast, terrific writer [Emily Spivey], but it's over now and we have other stuff we want to do," Bays tweeted. "Maybe in the future it could be something, but I think we need to try something new before we go back to it. To everyone who wanted to see it, I'm sorry. (And to everyone who didn't, you're welcome!)"

CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler said in at the network's Upfront in May  "there were elements of the pilot that didn't work out. She reiterated the network executives "love this show and we love these producers. I'm heartsick. We love this brand and we love this show, but it didn't work out."

Tassler said CBS reached out to Bays and fellow co-creator Craig Thomas about tweaking the show somewhat, but E! Online reported they did not want to do that without a series order from CBS. The show was then shopped to other networks, including Fox, but no one picked it up. Star Greta Gerwig and the rest of the cast were let out of their contracts.
