Homeland is about to undergo an almost complete reboot when it returns for Season 4, which places Carrie (Claire Danes) halfway around the world to do her job.

[WARNING: SEASON 3 FINALE SPOILERS BELOW]

The show made the controversial decision to kill Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) in the Season 3 finale, so the show can pretty much go anywhere from here. In an interview with EW.com, showrunner Alex Gansa drops some spoilers about the new season.

Firstly, he explains the premise of Season 4:

"It's about seeing Carrie Mathison for the first time doing the job she was trained to do - being a case officer in a foreign capital. We're going to see what an intelligence officer does on the ground. How she recruits assets, how she deals with the foreign government and her country team - the people she works with in the embassy - and the host country's intelligence services. That is a complicated and murky world, one that we hope is filled with intrigue and drama and adventure."

Some other highlights from the interview include:

-       About six months have passed since Season 3.

-       Carrie is mentally healthy but could be emotionally unstable from Brody's death.

-       The writers are toying with a Quinn (Rupert Friend) and Carrie romance but Carrie may not be ready yet.

-       Carrie is now Saul's boss.

-       There are no plans yet for Morgan Saylor or Morena Baccarin to appear in Season 4.

-       Gansa "would always hold the possibility" that Brody could return in flashbacks and said "just to drop him completely would feel wrong" because he was such a significant part of Carrie's life.
