The X-Men fan favorite has had many roles, from teacher to friend, at the Professor Charles Xavier's Institute of Gifted Students. Now the adamantium-clawed mutant faces his own inevitable demise in writer Charles Soule and artist Steve McNiven's highly anticpated Death of Wolverine #1.

Born in Alberta, Canada, James Howlett has led an eventful and action-packed life. Nicknamed Logan, he has faced battles with the X-Men, the Avengers, and Alpha Flight. In his long life, he has watched friends and lovers meet their own deaths, but now it is his turn to face the Grim Reaper.

In the month of September, Mavel will release an installment each week of the four-part miniseries. The X-Men hero will make his final stand in the first issue and meet his end in the last. For months, the comic book industry has been teasing about the epic event, but now it's really going to happen.

In the final issues, Logan is left standing by himself without his healing factor. In his greatest battle, the toughest man alive has to face his worst enemies, Lady Deathstrike, Sabertooth, and many more. Which one of them will deliver the final blow?

In an interview with Marvel, the Swamp Thing writer explains the build-up to the climatic conclusion, "The basic idea is that both Wolverine and the reader will be reflecting on Logan's life as the story builds to the ending. We'll get a better understanding of why this guy makes the choices he makes, and the path that led him to where we end up."

Each issue will come with a Canadian-themed variant. Already an ambitious tale in the making, no fan should miss this out.

Death of Wolverine #1 will hit stores the first week of September. Readers, are you excited to see Logan's last stand?
